You Say Potato…
Yay! It’s the 4th of July. And because we’re just a little bit obsessed with brands we thought it might be fun to do some digging to see what our pals across the water like to stick into their shopping trolley around this time of year. Well, we had to do a double take! Some of our best-loved brands are walking and talking a little bit differently over there. See what you think…
Lays – Walkers
In America, crisps are chips, chips are French fries, and Walkers are Lays. You’ll get the hang of it.
Dove – Galaxy
Fancy chomping on a bar of Dove?
3 Musketeers – Milky Way and Milky Way – Mars Bar
A MilkyWay a day helps you work, rest and play… mmm, doesn’t sound quite right. The US chocolate bar called 3 Musketeers is identical to the MilkyWay. However to confuse things even more, the States also have a bar called MilkyWay, which is actually a Mars Bar! Are you keeping up at the back?
< Axe – Lynx
There’s nothing like the bang of Lynx Africa to take you back to your sweaty youth. We prefer the US version – way more testosterone-fueled.
Mr. Clean – Flash
Sold as Flash in Ireland and the UK due to a previously existing company with the same brand name, and unfortunately goes without the devilishly handsome mascot too.
T.J. Maxx – T.K. Maxx
Who doesn’t love a good discount? The American discount retail chain changed the name to T.K. Maxx when it crossed the Atlantic to avoid confusion with the already established TJ Hughes.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s stone – Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
Harry Potter has captured the imagination of literally millions of people across the globe. Interestingly, it was thought that an American kid wouldn’t get their heads around a book with the word “philosopher” in the title!
