A Christmas Experience
The days are shorter, there’s a chill in the air and the Brown Thomas Christmas window display is in full swing! Christmas will be here before we know it. Around this time of year, I start to make plans for my kids to do various Christmas activities. I’m amazed at the type of experiences available. During my days as a child, I remember queuing for hours with my parents to see Santa in Switzers (now Brown Thomas) and admiring the gorgeous window displays – a tradition that families would travel for from all over the country. Lines were long but seeing Santa was free and the only Christmas experience available at the time.
Roll along 2018 and Christmas experiences are no longer about free Santa visits or gazing into window displays. It’s all about the entire Santa experience with endless choices and activities to choose from. These days, you can visit Santa on a boat or visit a majestic castle. Or how about a Santa sleepover? I have to wonder – has Christmas become more magical or is it more about profiteering and less about tradition? Either or there is a vast array of experiences to choose from.
Here are a few of my favourites:
Santa’s Magical Sleepover
Why spend an afternoon with Santa, when you can spend an entire weekend. From a journey through Santa’s magical trail to dinner served by elves, this Santa experience is fun for the whole family.
Santa’s Train Rides
There’s no shortage of train rides to visit Santa in Ireland. Share in the magic of Christmas on a journey through the Enchanted Forest on the Rathwood Santa Train or visit Santa at the luxurious 5 star Palmerstown Estate and ride the Santa House Express.
Elf Town
Take a trip to Galway to visit Elf Town! As if you’ve landed in the North Pole, this interactive Santa experience includes singing Christmas carols, writing Christmas lists, the Icicles Frozen Sweet Shop and lots of games and activities with the Elf Town Brigade. For the parents, enjoy a hot glass of mulled wine.
Winterville
Winterville in South London is your alternative festival experience. Expect live DJs, comedy, musical bingo, kid’s raves, Mexican wrestling and so much more.
