Where does your Dublin take you…
Why not take a moment on your next commute into Dublin city to really take in your surroundings, you may be surprised…
Dublin city is making a statement with its architecture! Mixing the old with the new or just standing tall and beautiful, Dublin City architecture has a lot to be proud of. As a designer, I am always on the lookout for creative, inspirational design. Design that may not please everyone but will make a statement for unique reasons of its own, be it for its aesthetic or its functionality or the sheer braveness of its composition.
Here’s some of Dublin’s finest on my journey to work…
The Customs House
Designed by the renowned architect James Gandon, the Customs House stands proudly on the River Liffey. Take a moment to really appreciate the grandness of this design and its impact on its surroundings, most notably the modern day Irish Financial services centre. And the juxtaposition between old and new, creating an architectural landscape design that is both rich and layered and merges past and present day.
The very impressive new VHI building by MDO Architects
Respecting and preserving architectural heritage, the new VHI building transforms Abbey Street – cocooning at the old church hall and former lecture theatre in a ‘glass and metal exoskeleton structure’ whilst wrapping around the main church to connect with their current building.
The glitzy cashless Central Bank by HJL
Standing tall and confident in Dublin’s docklands, the new Central Bank HQ is a sculptural piece. The building glistens with the reflection golden triangle harmonies with the River Liffey.
